Revolutionary Digital Lenses

  • First available in 2000
  • First manufactured in Canada in 2008
  • Now available for Single Vision as well as Progressive lens designs
Revolutionary advances in the basic lens manufacturing process have allowed for extremely detailed customization of the lens surfaces.  A range of details such as your lens prescription, frame size, frame shape and fitting characteristics can now be taken into account by the manufacturer’s computer on a case by case basis.
A computer analyzes the details and then creates a lens design that is specific for you and sends the information to computer guided lens grinding equipment.  A block of spectacle grade plastic is shaped into a detailed spectacle lens with highly sophisticated optics that are uniquely yours.  Since 2008 nearly all the new single vision, progressive and computer / desk extended range lens designs have been manufactured by this method.

These lenses are often referred to as a “digital”, "digital free-form" or "high definition digital" lenses.  Compared to the best of the conventional lens designs of just a few years ago, digital lenses deliver unprecedented levels of clarity, visual comfort and field of view.  Lines will appear straighterthere is less wave and distortion when moving your head and the central clear zone… “the sweet spot”… is larger.

At Westwood Optical we feature some of the most innovative digital lenses from Nikon as well as value priced Merit digital free-form products.  Contact us for more information.
